Mabel Burgett 102, died at Fleur Heights Nursing Home, with family close, on January 5, 2019. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, January 10, 2019 at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street, Des Moines. She was born May 25, 1916, to Marvin and Evelyn Farien in Glidden, Iowa. Mabel was number three of fifteen children. Later, her family moved to Des Moines where she met her love, Jerry.
Mabel loved her life centered around God and family. She spent hours playing and teaching her six children her values. This also carried over to her grandchildren. Mabel started her working career at the age of 60 as a housekeeper and continued for about 15 years. Above all else she treasured her time spent with her grandchildren and enjoyed playing ball, tea parties and making snow angels, which she continued in to her 90’s.
Those that left life before her were her husband, Jerry; children, Betty Rounds, Jerry Burgett Jr. Beverly Wike and Thomas Burgett; grandchildren, Jerry Lee Proctor and Lori Hoffman; and ten siblings.
Those surviving to honor her memory are her children, Bonnie (Russ) Cogley and Robert (Valerie) Burgett of Des Moines; siblings, Dr. Shirley Forbing and Susan Wilson of California, Donna (Don) Nelson of Nebraska and George (Pat) Bates of Des Moines; 20 grandchildren; as well as many great and great-great-grandchildren; many loving relatives; and special friend, Connie Goff.

Mable was the grandmother of my son-in-law Ferrall Burgett.
she was a very gracious lady and a wonderful christian woman. My own mother lived to be 102 so I felt the Lord blessed them both, as well as us.

I had the honor to call you great grandma and always enjoyed my time with you. You loved to wrap a sock in duct tape and play baseball with me in the yard. I admired the love you had for the Lord and how you always put him first. We will love and miss you but we are also glad that you were called home. Rest easy..
