James Ferguson, Sr.

James Milton Ferguson, Sr., 91, was born February 12, 1927 in Little Rock, Arkansas, the son of George and Iva (Estes) Ferguson. He passed away Saturday, December 22, 2018 at Mercy Medical Center.

Jim proudly served his country in the United States Navy and was a Deck Hand aboard the USS Pensacola. He retired from the Des Moines Register after many years of faithful service. Jim was a “Professional Gambler” and enjoyed numerous outings to Prairie Meadows playing his slot machines.

Jim was joined in marriage to Spevie (Cataldo) Ferguson and to this union four children were born: Debbie, Delores, Linda and Jamie. In later years he married Susanne (Lapcheske) Ferguson and two children were born: Patty and Jim Jr. Their son, Jim, moved from Oregon to Iowa to take care of them both as their health was failing. He was blessed to have 3 years with his mother and 3 and a half years with his father before their passing.

A Celebration of Life for Jim will be held on his birthday at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, February 12, 2019 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon St in Des Moines. Private inurnment will take place at a later date at Masonic Cemetery.
