Michael L. McVey

Michael L. McVey, 57, died at his home Saturday, October 25, 2008 from ALS. A graveside service will be held 12 p.m. Monday, October 27, 2008 at Avon Cemetery. Visitation will be held 6-8 p.m. Sunday at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street.
Michael was born May 27, 1951 to Howard and Helen McVey in Des Moines. He served in the National Guard from 1971-1979 where he earned awards for marksmanship, throwing grenades, and jumping out of airplanes. Michael worked as a custodian for Grant Park Christian Church and Windsor Heights Lutheran Church. He enjoyed traveling, dancing with his lovely wife, and racing slot cars. Michael’s true love was his family, especially spending time with his mother and grandchildren.
Michael is survived by his wife, Peggy; sons, Michael “Joe” McVey of St. Louis and Edward McVey of Des Moines; step-children, Lisa (Terry) Stephan of Des Moines and Todd McFall of Ankeny; five grandchildren; mother, Helen McVey; brother, Tom (Margie) McVey.
Michael was preceded in death by his father, Howard; and grandparents, Carl and Nina McVey and Clarence and Alice Keeling.
