Thomas Neal McCuen

Thomas Neal McCuen, 67, passed away peacefully at Taylor House Hospice on Sunday, December 16, 2018. Services will be held at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines, Iowa on Thursday, December 20, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. Visitation will be prior from 10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. with family present from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Tom was born in Des Moines, Iowa to Lloyd and Geneva McCuen on September 24, 1951. He was a very proud graduate of East High School and continued on to receive his bachelor’s degree from Drake University. Tom worked at Principal Financial Group for 27 years and Prairie Meadows for 12 years. He was married to Rita McCuen, the mother of his children, for 27 years and LuAnn McCuen for 7 years.
Tom had a passion for coaching and coached both of his children in several sports including baseball, softball, basketball and soccer. He was also known as the “vacation planner” and took his family on many unforgettable trips. Tom was a loving and caring father that will be deeply missed.
He is survived by his children, Travis (Stephanie) McCuen and Stephanie (Ryan) Gustafson; stepchildren, Ryan (Erin) Trampel and Tricia Trampel; grandchildren, Grayson McCuen and Grant Gustafson; his sister, Cheryl (Mike) Thompson; his sister-in-law, Norma McCuen along with other family and friends. Tom was proceeded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Geneva McCuen; his wife, LuAnn McCuen; and his brother, Ernie McCuen.

There are no words to describe the pain of loosing your Dad. I am so very sorry for your loss. I love Tom, and all of you since we were all kids. Im sorry I didnt get to say Goodbye to him. However, I know now he is with his Maker and he is no longer in any more pain. Prayers for you and your Family at this difficult time. Love, Jennifer

Tom and I were classmates in junior high and high school. I will always remember his wonderful sense of humor.

Our love and prayers are with all of you in the loss of your Dad, Grandpa, Brother, Uncle and your friend. Tom was a good guy that had a great laugh and smile of warmth. We always had great visits. Uncle Tom you were always larger than life to me and I have so many great memories with you. I will miss your humor and your love for your family! Give my dad a big hug for me and tell Gma and Gpa McCuen that I love them so much! You will be missed by so many and I'll carry your memory in my heart forever.
