Gregg A. Houghman, 53, passed away Tuesday, October 21, 2008 at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, October 27, 2008 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon St. with burial at Laurel Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Gregg was born February 22, 1955 in Des Moines, Iowa, where he resided until moving to Oelwein in 2005. Diagnosed with polio as a very young child he lived his life with passion and determination that was an inspiration to his family and many friends. He worked for Goodwill Industries during his working career. He enjoyed gardening, cooking and was an avid coin collector.
Gregg will be deeply missed by his loving aunt, Hattie (Hap) Edmonds; brother, Ronald Houghman and wife Peggy; niece, Rhonda Isaacson; nephew, Kevin Houghman and a host of other family members and friends.

My name is Marsha Schulz and I'm a Rehab Aide at Grandview in Oelwein.
I seen Gregg on a daily bases and did therapy with Gregg on his arms and hand. Gave him a massage when he'd request. I looked forward to seeing him everyday because he was so full of life. Being the same age we had alot in common with music. He was always my hero when I needed a name of a song or certain CD. He'd get on his computer and find whatever I needed. I always enjoyed his family stories about his nephews and niece. About his dog, his brother and mom. We laughed so much sometimes it wouldn't matter if his therapy hurt because we had so much laughter. He loved his family very much
When I'd knock and announce "hi, it's Marsha" He'd say "Hi it's Gregg." I'm going to miss that so much because he made me smile before I even would enter the room.
He was looking forward to Halloween and was going to make sure the kids had candy and that I'd get my dark chocalate because that is the kind of chocalate I like. Halloween Day is my day off but I had to promise him I'd stop in on that day but now.
I'm sorry for your loss and sorry for my loss because I will miss him something fierce.
I loved him like my own brother and will always treasure his memories and friendship.
