Benjamin “Ben” F. Burkhead, 80, died Tuesday, October 21, 2008 at Taylor House Hospice. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, October 24, 2008 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon St. with burial at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Ben was born December 4, 1927 in Des Moines to Frank and Elma Burkhead. He served in the U.S. Marines during WWII. Ben was a member of the American Legion. He retired from Armstrong Tire.
Ben is survived by his children, Diane (Eddy) Willett, Jeanette Simmons and Frank Burkhead; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Rose Mary; four brothers; and a sister.
Memorial contributions may be made to Taylor House Hospice or Drake Literacy Center.

Diane(Eddie), Janette and Frank. I am so sorry to hear about your Dad. I always thought a lot of him. He was a good man. I am sorry I missed the funeral. I just found out about it. I will be praying for you all in the days to come. I know how it is to loose a father that was so close and I know he was always close to you all. God Bless you.

Diane, I was sorry to hear about your dad. I know you will miss him alot,but you'll be together again someday. Keep all your memories close to your heart. Keep in touch.
