Karen Kay (Blaine) Ellis Nath, 63, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on October 13, 2008 at the Hospice Kavanagh House on 56th Street. Funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M. Friday at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street in Des Moines.
Karen is survived by her daughter, Tammra (Daniel Sr.) Thompson of California; son, Leland (Matt Chandler) Ellis of Des Moines; son, Steve (Joy Hummel) Ellis of Des Moines; grandchildren, Daniel Thompson, Jr., Justin Thompson and Kristina Thompson, all of California; 6 great-grandchildren; sisters, Nancy (Herman) Gracey of Osceola and Joanie (Steve) Howe of Creston; brother, John (Cindy) Blaine of Messina, Iowa and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Cinthia Jo Vale; sister, Mary Lou Lively; brother, Jack “Sonny” Blaine and her parents, Ova and Elsie (Keller) Blaine.
The family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Kavanagh House on 56th Street in loving memory of Karen.

My sympathy to the family of Karen. I worked with Karen at Casey's and she was always nice to me. She will be missed by those who really knew Karen.

Karen impacted our life in such an amazing way for someone that could have chosen to be a stranger. Our family has 2 young girls and she made thier days when we visited her place of work. Seeing her shining smile and her willingness to engage my girls and our family always left us with a warm feeling. And our oldest, 4, always wanted to go visit Karen. We truly have missed Karen and wish your family peace in your healing process. It was nice to read that she was surrounded by family at the time of her passing. Karen was truly a sweet lady and will be forever missed.
