Dorothy Ann Winder, 85, passed away peacefully at her home Sunday, October 12, 2008. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, October 15, 2008 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, with burial to follow at Laurel Hill Cemetery.
Dorothy was born June 23, 1923 in Des Moines, the daughter of Ruben and Sylvia (Farrell) Rucker. She was a retired secretary for the Military Academy at Camp Dodge.
Dorothy is survived by many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Carl Winder; her parents; and her brothers and sisters.
The family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, October 14, 2008 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Animal Rescue League or the family in loving memory of Dorothy.

I am very sorry to learn of Dorothy's passing. I have many pleasant memories of Dorothy during my time at the Iowa Military Academy (Class XIII) (1970). She was always most helpful and willing to help each individual cadet. Although it has been many years since I last saw her, she will be missed! After graduation I went ahead and completed a 23 year career in the Army Reserves as a Chief Warrant Officer Four. Dorothy was always a positive influence and example for me.
