Melvin Irons

Melvin Irons 78, of Altoona died Wednesday, October 25 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston. Funeral Services will be held 10 AM Saturday, October 28 at Hamilton’s Altoona Funeral Home with burial following at Altoona Cemetery.
Melvin was born September 17, 1928 in Runnells, Iowa and lived most of life in the Altoona area. After high school, Melvin worked in farming and grain management. He retired in 1990 after 30 years of employment with the Farmers Coop in Bondurant. Melvin married Marcella Conner on February 20, 1947 and together began a family in the Altoona area. Melvin was known as a good person and a dear friend too many in the area.
He is survived by his wife Marcy of 59 years; a son Dan of Altoona; a daughter Sherry Blake of Altoona; a step brother Gerald Ware of Des Moines; a step sister Margaret Prall of Des Moines; 8 Grandchildren and 24 Great Grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his mother Lucetta and step father Olive Ware and his father Harold Irons.
Visitation will be held Friday, October 27 from 5-7 at the funeral home. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Mercy Hospice in Johnston
