James E. Cox

James E. Cox, 87, died peacefully on Wednesday, November 28, 2018, at Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines, Iowa.

Jim was born on January 27, 1931, in Des Moines to Alva James and Mary Leona Cox. He graduated from Des Moines Tech High School and married Lois Roberts in 1950, who preceded him in death in 2009. He retired after owning Fairground Hardware.

Jim is survived by his children, Susan (Tim) Smith of Davenport, IA, Deanna (Tom) Scripture of Avon Lake, OH and Michael Cox of Des Moines, IA. His five granddaughters, Sunny and Kelli Smith, Britta (Ogden), Meghan and Kelsey (Janelle) Scripture have wonderful memories of his garden, his encyclopedic knowledge of repairs, maintenance, and various hobbies. He leaves five great grandchildren, two brothers, Loren and Bill, and sisters-in-law, Marilyn Cox and Ruth Sage. He was preceded in death by great grandson, Rylan Joseph.
