David Hodson
November 25, 2018
David Wayne Hodson, 55, passed away November 25, 2018, surrounded by the love and comfort of his family. He was born August 17, 1963, at Oaknole Naval Hospital in Oakland, California, to David Eugene and Jeri (Christian) Hodson.
Dave graduated from Saydel High School in 1982 and joined the United States Marine Corps. He married Traci Rasmussen (O’Brien) in which son Mathew David was born. Dave and Traci later divorced. On February 4, 1995, he married his soul mate and the love of his life, Emily Kessler, in which daughters Madison Lynn and Bailey Jane were born.
Dave made a career as an HVAC Tech and spent 15 years as co-owner of Dyna-Kleen.
One of his biggest joys was coaching youth football and baseball at Saydel for many years. He was also a former wrestling referee, volunteer, and Saydel Wrestling’s biggest fan. Dave enjoyed the outdoors whether he was fishing, camping, or working in his yard. Above all else, his faith, family, children, and friends consumed his soul and love for life.
Dave is survived by his wife, Emily; children, Mat, Madison (Seth), and Bailey; parents, Dave and Jeri; sister, Krista (Don) Reha; niece, Ashley (Luke); nephew, Adam; a nephew that was special to him, Chris Philips, as well as six little nieces and nephews; father-in-law, Jeff Kessler; in-laws, Jennifer, Katie (Mark), and Jeffie (Kelly), and many other loving family and countless friends. He was preceded in death by his grandparents; brother, Jimmy; nephew, Jared; mother-in-law, Kris Kessler, and his aunt, Judy McBee.
A celebration of his life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, November 30, 2018, at Bethany Reformed Church, 720 NE 52nd Avenue in Des Moines with burial to follow at Berwick Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church Thursday evening from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m.

My condolences to the Hodson family and to my dear friend Mat. Your dad was a joy and always a good laugh. I could always hear him and your grandpa cheering us on during basketball games. He called it like he saw it and I always appreciated that about him. My heart, thoughts, and prayers go out to your entire family.
