Jerry Dean

Jerry E. Dean, 80, passed away in Des Moines on November 24, 2018. He was born July 1, 1938, in Northfield, IA to Perl Edward and Delta (Orwig) Dean.

Jerry was united in marriage to Clara Mae Ropers on October 24, 1986. He made a career in the real estate business working as a contractor, never truly retiring.

Jerry treasured his family and will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He was always helping others and enjoyed completing projects for his local church.

Jerry enjoyed visiting flea markets and finding items he could repurpose. He loved wintering in Texas for many years, spending time with friends, playing cards, and dancing.

Jerry is survived by his loving wife, Clara Mae Dean; children, Kurtis (Tammy) Dean, Casey (Barb) Dean, and Scott (Mark Matteo) Dean; step-children, Patty (Dave) Newcomb, Jerry (Nell) Sagehorn, and Don Bassett; 10 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and 2 great great-grandchildren; siblings, Dessie (Mike) Hoschek, Lila (Gerald) Janssen, and Carol Romney; his previous wife, Shirley Dean; as well as other loving family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., with visitation beginning at 1:00 p.m., on Friday, November 30, 2018, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue in Des Moines. Burial will follow the service at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.
