Dennis Vitalis

Dennis E. Vitalis, 69, died Friday, September 19, 2008 at Taylor House Hospice surrounded by his family. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, September 22, 2008 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon St.
Memorial services will be held at 5:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 23, 2008 at Elks Lodge No. 98, 5420 NE 12th in Pleasant Hill. Private family burial will be held at a later date at Rising Sun Cemetery.
Dennis was born July 1, 1939 in Des Moines, Iowa to Elmer and Thelma Vitalis. He was a lifetime member of Elks Lodge #98, drove for Vitalis Truck Lines and Crouse Cartage Company before retiring from Teamsters Local 147 in 1999. He enjoyed watching NASCAR, visiting with friends and his beloved pets.
Dennis is survived by his daughters, Bobbi (Jim) Thomas of Pleasant Hill, Kay Crees (Steve Miller) of Mitchellville, Denise (Mike) Bray of Des Moines and Becky (Mike) Piester of Illinois; sons, Denny Mike (Gail) Vitalis of Des Moines and Johnny Kelly of Seattle, WA; sisters, Sherry (Michael) Nurmela of St. Louis, MO and Susan (John) Church of Council Bluffs; grandchildren, Shelli (Clayton) Bice, Nickolaus (Lindsay) Bethards, Joe (Tabby) Thomas, Jamie Thomas (Dustin Young), Casey (Randi) Saunders, Dawn Saunders, Deanna, Dana and Daniel Bray, Mason Kelly, Dominique, Davina and Denny Vitalis; 14 great grandchildren; nieces, nephews and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Donna of 35 years.
