Fred Kern

Frederick William Kern, 80, passed away peacefully at Taylor House Wednesday, December 27, 2006.
Fred was born November 18, 1926 in Grimes, Iowa. He proudly served his country as a United States Coast Guard Veteran. Fred was a truck mechanic for Housby Mac Truck and retired in 1988 after many years of faithful service.
Fred is survived by his sons, Roger (Marilyn) Kern of Grimes, Michael Kern of Adel, and Arthur (Sara) Kern of Pleasant Hill; daughters, Connie Jo (Timothy) Young, Carol (Gary) Jeffries, and Barbara (Terry) Schultz, all of Des Moines; brother, George (Joan) Kern of Arizona; his fiancé, Lorraine Hutchinson of Des Moines; 10 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Jim Kern; sister, Violet Cook; his parents, Joe and Beulah Kern; and his wife, Della Kern.
The body will be cremated and there are no services planned. Memorial contributions may be made to Iowa Health Hospice Taylor House in loving memory of Fred. Hamilton’s Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
