Donald Smith, age 85, passed away on Wednesday, November 21, 2018 at Mercy Medical Center, Des Moines. Donald was born the son of Cal and Grace Smith on January 27, 1933 in Des Moines, Iowa. Donald proudly served his country in the US Army, upon his return he began work for MTA as a bus driver for 6 years. He married Beverly in 1986 in Des Moines.

Donald had a passion for trains and took every chance he could to work on them. He also, enjoyed crafts, word puzzles and last, but not least shoveling snow. He will be remembered most for his willingness to helping others, being serious, yet a very loving man. Donald will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife, Beverly; children, Mike Smith and Mark Smith; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; sisters, Helen and Virginia; and many extended family and friends.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Howard; and sisters, Margaret and Rose.

Visitation will be held at 10:30 am, Wednesday, November 28, 2018, with funeral service following at 12:30 pm, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Burial will follow at 2 pm at Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter.
