Vaughn Edmond Nichols, age 84, passed away Sunday, November 4, 2018.
Vaughn was born October 10, 1934 in Des Moines, Iowa. He was the son of Edmond and Gretta (Long) Nichols. He was married to Rose Marie Nichols, and they enjoyed almost 50 years together before her death in 2003. Vaughn served in the Army National Guard and worked as a truck driver. He retired from United with over 40 years of service. He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, camping and wintering in the south. He was a jokester and loved making people laugh. Vaughn and his wife, Rose were wonderful parents and great providers for their family. The Nichols family lived on the same street for 80 years.
Vaughn is survived by his children, Mark Nichols, Brenda Trigg, and Vaughn Eric Nichols; grandchildren, Laci, Kyle, Kody, Gary, Darcy, Crystal, Christopher, Ken, Kevin, Matthew and Rose; several great-grandchildren; and many extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Rose; daughter, Renea Fisher; two sisters; and his parents.
Funeral service will be held at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines on Wednesday, November 7, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will take place at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.

My memories of your Dad are from years of friendship with Renea. I remember stopping by their house in the summer many times. They were often in lawn chairs feeding the squirrels. You are all in my thoughts & prayers.

I knew Vaughn from exercise class. He was in the earlier class and would give me a report what to expect. It was a joy to have known Vaughn. RIP

So sorry for your loss. I always stopped to talk with him when I saw him out in the yard. I have lived on E 41st street since I was one year old. R.I.P. neighbor. You will be missed.

We enjoyed see Vaughn when he came in to see his "beauties". We sure will miss seeing him and all his kind gestures to us. We love you, Mr. Nichols!!
