Rudy Roe
October 29, 2018
Rudy Gene Roe, 79, passed away Monday, October 29, 2018. He was born March 14, 1939 to Lawrence and Leona (Davis) Roe. Rudy was a lifelong resident of the Des Moines area. He was a proud East High School graduate, class of 1958 and served his country in the United States Army, 82nd Airborne.
Rudy had a larger-than-life personality. He filled every room he entered with warmth and laughter; everyone who met Rudy was an instant friend and loved him from that moment on. He loved the Iowa State Fair and enjoyed boasting to people how he would sneak in to the Fair from the time he was a child, even in to adulthood. He was a magnetic, fun-loving person. He enjoyed cooking, playing golf, sailing, and was an award winning photographer. Rudy’s passing has left a hole in the hearts of anyone who knew him. He will be dearly missed.
Rudy is survived by his beloved wife of 33 years, Jean, his brother, Mac (Lila), many nieces, nephews, other extended family, and countless friends who Rudy loved like family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Leona Roe and his brother, Larry.
Cremation has occurred. Visitation will be from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. Sunday, November 4 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. A service to celebrate and honor his life will begin at 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 5, also at the funeral home, with a reception to follow.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the Des Moines EHS Alumni Foundation.

Jean,
So very sorry to hear of Rudy's demise. He was a friend --and Really Great guy. One of his gifts was that of laughter. I recall the time he came out to visit when I was in California and we went scuba diving--I learned you can even laugh--"under water "!

Jean, we can't imagine the void in your heart that Rudy has left. We too will be feeling a loss of such a vibrant man. Rudy was a force of Nature with his continual good humor, his great smile and a laugh that could be easily heard in a crowded room. He was also a great and unwaivering friend to us all. We can't be with you all for remembrances but we will be on the water next week with our thoughts for you, Rudy and all who will be there with you and recalling at least a few of the many, many great memories of which he left us.
