Frances passed from this world on September 16, 2008 from complications of surgery.
Frances was born on June 20, 1932 to Harold Ardith Stuhlmiller and Lois Minnie Jeys in Spencer, Iowa. She was raised by her grandparents, Robert and Lorene Bollard in Perry, Iowa. In 1948, she was married to Robert F. Stephens of Redfield, Iowa. In 1949 the couple moved to Des Moines where they remained. To this union was born 3 daughters. After 47 years, Robert (Bud) passed away of a heart attack in 1995.
Frances worked as a bookkeeper for Reichardt’s, The Paper Corporation, and Badower’s, leaving there after 18 years to work for her son-in-law and later Praxair until her marriage to Robert L. Bristle in 2000. She loved the outdoors and gardening, reading, crafts, fishing with her husband, playing cards, cooking, and spending time with her family and extended family. She was active in Ladies Auxiliary VFW Post 9662 and served in various capacities at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church and later at St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church.
Frances is survived by her husband, Robert; daughters: Linda (Lance) Berlovich, Susan McKeehan, and Vanessa (Neil) Davis; her step-children: Ronda (David) Menke, Michael (Cheryl) Bristle, Mark (Joy) Bristle, and Linda (Don) Daniel; grandchildren: Shelley (Bill) Perry, Stephen Spain, Sandra (Tom) Armstrong, Robert (Nancy) Hanlon, and Amy (Michael) Makovec; step-grandchildren: Jason (Tamara) Menke, Nathan Daniel, Lacy Daniel, Ryan (Michelle) Bristle, Melanie (Jaimie) Sanabria, and Warren (Tracy) Bristle; 3 nephews: Harold (Cheryl), Ronald (Karen), and Charles Hughes; 10 great grandchildren; and 8 step great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Robert Stephens; her parents; two sets of grandparents; aunts; uncles; and her only sister, Jean Hughes Omvig.
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 20, 2008 at St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church, 1020 24th St. in West Des Moines with burial at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Friday, September 19, 2008 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon St. in Des Moines.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Boline Manfredi Ladies Auxiliary Post 9662; American Cancer Society, or St Timothy’s Episcopal Church.
