Margaret Ellen Shaw

Margaret Ellen Shaw, 94, formerly of Maxwell, passed away Friday, October 25, 2018 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, October 30 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Holy Cross Catholic Church in Elkhart, IA with burial to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Farrar. Family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday, October 29 at the church with a Rosary to follow at 7:00 p.m.

Margaret was born September 7, 1924 to James and Ella Rooney. She lived in the Farrar area most of her life. In 1941 she graduated from Farrar High School in a class of 7. Among those was her high school sweetheart and later husband of 62 years, James Shaw. After graduation, Margaret attended AIB College in Des Moines and later worked for IMT Insurance.

She raised four sons and was exceptionally proud that they all graduated from Dowling Catholic High School and all received college degrees. Margaret was a lifelong member of St. Mary’s Holy Cross Catholic Church and served on numerous committees including Altar and Rosary, Building and Grounds, and Parish Council.

Margaret is survived by her sons, Bill (Gwen), John (Tracy), Larry, and Bob; 7 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim in 2008.
