Ronald Leo Nichols, 68, died Tuesday, October 23, 2018.
He was born July 25, 1950 in Arkansas to Leo and Bertha Nichols. Ron graduated from North High School, then joined the Marines during the Vietnam War. He worked at the Des Moines Register for many years until his retirement. He loved antiques and watching sports. The love of his life was his companion, Cyndee Swenson who passed away June 26, 2014.
He is survived by his brother, Bobby Nichols and sisters, Rebecca (Mike) Volrath and Donna (Sean) Fitzgerald. His sister, Rebecca Adams just passed away the day after Ron. He is also survived by his daughter, Penny (Scott) Waddingham, step-daughter, Kelly (Acey) Haroldson, grandson, Jacob Tobey, granddaughters, Katie and Maddie Waddingham, and many nieces and nephews.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Bertha.
There will be a Celebration of Life Sunday, October 28, 2018 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines.

To the family I'm very sorry for loss
Ronald Was a great friend buyer he loved Auctions. He came to my First Auction Held In Des Moines 17 yrs ago followed my sale's for years He always had a smile on his face. a warm Hart. always had a story to tell. You never knew what he might just buy at auction. He always said well I like to keep Auctioneers on there feet. Rest in peace Ron, You will be missed. Col Kyle Miller

Very sorry about your loss. Have known Ron for quite a long time from being in the antique business. He shopped at Collectamania and came to the Auction Outlet quite a few times to check out what we had for the weekly auctions. I will miss our visits.

Prayers for his whole family. I was fortunate to meet Ron this summer. His friendliness and willingness to talk and share with me will forever be remembered.
