Mary L. Chiesa

Mary L. Chiesa, 71, passed away October 18, 2018 at Unity Point Health Des Moines Methodist.

Mary was born June 27, 1947 in Des Moines to Frank and Arlene (Polen) Schoonover. She and Ron Chiesa were married young and grew up together. Mary and Ron owned and operated Holiday Pools. She enjoyed golfing and watching sports, especially the Green Bay Packers, Oakland Raiders and New York Yankees. She was very good at sports trivia and enjoyed organizing a fantasy football league with several businesses many years ago.

Mary is survived by her husband of 56 years, Ron; daughter, Deena (Ray) Murphy; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; siblings, Pat (Gary) Hagenkord and Frank (Pamela) Schoonover; several nieces, nephews and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; daughters, Denise and Kristina; sister, Diane; and her brother, John.

The family will greet friends Wednesday, October 24, 2018 from 1 to 2 p.m. followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 2 p.m. at St. Anthony Catholic Church, 15 Indianola Road in Des Moines.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Animal Rescue League of Iowa in loving memory of Mary.
