Bobby D. Hershey
October 20, 2018
Bobby Duane Hershey, age 75, passed away unexpectedly at his home on October 20, 2018.
Bob was born February 23, 1943 at home in Des Moines, Iowa to Jake and Merle Hershey. He graduated from Runnells Consolidated School (SEP) in 1961. He joined the Navy in February 1962 with the Iowa Seahawks unit.
On June 30, 1962, he married his high school sweetheart, Sally Donaldson, in Millington, TN. He transferred to the naval base at Patuxent River, MD where he was stationed with the Naval Air unit OASU, working on large airplanes. He received an honorable discharge in July 1966. Bob, Sally, and family returned to Runnells, and he went to his job at American Freight. He was a proud union worker for Teamsters Local 147 for 33 years. After retirement, he enjoyed painting oil landscapes and worked part-time at Prairie Meadows. He met many great friends there before retiring for the last time in 2010. He was a proud member of the Runnells DA Club (known as the coffee club), and a faithful member of the Runnells Christian Church.
Bob was devoted to his family, friends, and church. He was the most hard working and loving man. Bob will always be remembered for his sincerity, kindness, and willingness to help anyone he could. He never met a stranger a day in his life.
