Rick Perkovich

Rick Perkovich, 67, passed away October 21, 2018 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston.
Rick was born November 27, 1950 in Des Moines to John and Betty Perkovich. He grew up on the Eastside of Des Moines where his friends called him “Cool Daddy”. Rick worked as auto mechanic for his cousin at Allen’s Car Repair in Oskaloosa for many years prior to going to work for Fawn Engineering in 1990. He loved playing his guitar. Rick became an avid motorcyclist at the age of 13. He owned several motorcycles over the years, his most recent bike was a Victory 1700. Rick was very protective person and enjoyed making people happy. He loved his dogs, Muk Muk and Baby Girl and his cats, Sprinkles and Smokey. They brought him great comfort throughout his illness. He was a member of Eagle Vision Church formerly Kingsway Cathedral.
Rick is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Sherry; siblings, John Perkovich, Pamela Tafta and Tammy Brower; oodles of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, whom he loved dearly; and a host of extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and son, David.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Mercy Hospital and Mercy Hospice for the excellent and compassionate care Rick received.
The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, October 26, 2018 at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, October 27th at the funeral home followed by burial at Avon Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be directed to Feed the Children, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the local Animal Rescue League in loving memory of Rick.

Bryan and I will miss your laugh and your kind heart. Our family has a lot of memories that we can hang on to with you and Sherry. You were more than a cousin, you were a brother and a dear friend. Our family knows we have a special guardian angel. RIP Rick.

I met Rick when I lived next door to his Dad years ago. More recently I enjoyed visiting with him and Sherry when they came into where I worked. He was a good guy and I was sorry to hear he had passed away. My sympathy to Sherry and his family.
