Steve Brink
October 21, 2018
Steve Brink, 56, unexpectedly passed away Sunday morning, October 21, 2018, due to a critical heart event. He was born December 16, 1961 to Dorothy (Ennema) and Henry Wayne Brink. Steve graduated from Spencer High School in 1981 where he lettered in football and track.
Upon moving to Des Moines, he met his future wife, Lori, and they wed on April 20, 1990. He retired from Frito-Lay in 2016 after 31 years of service and continued his painting business full time.
Steve remained active by golfing and playing "semi-pro" sand and indoor volleyball. His adventurous self enjoyed deep sea fishing, sky diving, parasailing and snorkeling.
A loving and loyal husband, father, Papa, brother, son and friend, Steve knew how to live life big. Whether it be grilling his famous wings on the deck, cheering for the Kansas City Chiefs and Iowa State Cyclones, or drinking a beer beachside, he would always have a story to tell or a joke to share in trademark Brinko fashion...full of sarcasm and wit.
He is survived by his loving wife of 28 years, Lori; son, Aron (Clarissa) Nielsen; daughters, Larissa Ronald (Matt Hatting) and Amber (Scott) Elliott; grandchildren, Elianna, Paxtynn, Chayce, Anniston, Vanessa, Khloe, Brody and Bryce; his mother, Dorothy Zuercher (Dennis Almquist); brothers, David (Mona), Jeff (April), and Lyle (Staci) Brink; parents-in-law, Rand and Judy Thacker; brother-in-law, Tom Farris; sister-in-law, Eden Ames; other loving family and a multitude of friends. Steve was preceded in death by his father, Wayne Brink and step-father, Bill Zuercher.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 25th at Hamilton's on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Pkwy in West Des Moines, IA. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Wednesday evening from 5-8 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Animal Life Line.
