Richard "Dick" McCauley
October 18, 2018
Richard “Dick” Harrison McCauley, 75, died October 18th surrounded by family. He was born September 3, 1943, to Robert Sr. and Rose (Harrison) McCauley in Des Moines. Dick graduated from North High and then went on to play his favorite sport, baseball, for Drake University, graduating with a journalism degree in 1965. Dick had a brilliant baseball career and was inducted into the Hall of Fame by North High baseball, Drake University and B’nai B’rith.
Dick worked for Dial Finance Corp. where he met the love of his life, Mary Gay. He retired from Electronic Engineering in 2005 after 30 plus years.
Dick and Mary were married on May 25, 1968. During 50 wonderful years of marriage, they raised 2 children.
He is survived by his children Malinda and wife Amy, and Mick and his wife Molly. Dick is also survived by 4 grandchildren, McKenna, Gage, Nicholas and Macy; brother, Bob; twin sister, Diane, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Dick was devoted to his family, friends, church and his New York Yankees. He shared his passion for sports by coaching various youth teams. He could always be found and heard on the sidelines of his grandchildren’s games. Dick will always be remembered for his sincerity and kindness to others as he never met a stranger.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 24, 2018, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue in Des Moines with visitation to follow from 4 to 6 p.m.

To Mary, Mick, Melinda and Family: I was so sorry to learn of Dick's passing. I can still remember the first time we met back when I was in high school playing basketball at the Old Y on 2nd and Grand. Dick was playing and I believe working for Dial Finance at the time, and we met in a pickup game. Several years later he was working for Motorola and as Dick was one never to forget a face, remembered exactly where and how we met. He was a great friend and ementor in my early years. We used to have good times when we got together. I thought I would be able to make the service, but something came up which I had to attend to. My thoughts are with all of you on this sad occassion.

Mary is a former co-worker from Pioneer Hi-Bred and one of my favorite people in the world. She literally lit up every time she spoke of Dick and it breaks my heart to know that she has lost her love. The entire McCauley family has my deepest sympathy for the loss of this special man.
