Service Details

Jim Brown went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, September 16, 2008 after a courageous, yet brief battle with brain tumors. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, September 20, 2008 at Lutheran Church of the Cross, 1701 8th Street SW in Altoona with burial to follow at the Altoona Cemetery.
Jim was born on April 26th, 1944 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Moving to Des Moines in 1972, with his wife Kay, he pursued his lifelong dedication to environmental causes by working at the Department of Natural Resources and later, his own consulting firm.
Always serving others, Jim spent time helping families affected by domestic violence through his volunteer work with the FreeStore. Additionally, Jim was active in his church and loved to read his bible.
Jim is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Kay; his son, Stephen (Melissa) Brunia-Brown; his daughter, Emily Claridge; his sister, Jean (Myron) Brown; his brother, Jerry (Martha) Brown and other relatives and close friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Franklyn and Esther Brown and an infant sister, Nancy.
The family will greet friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, September 19, 2008 at the Cross Creek building at Lutheran Church of the Cross. Memorial contributions may be given to the FreeStore (www.freestore.org) or Lutheran Church of the Cross in lieu of flowers. Hamilton’s Altoona Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
