Thelma Ogden

Thelma J. Ogden, 92, of Des Moines passed away on September 14, 2008 at Hospice Kavanagh House on 56th. Funeral services will be at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home at 10:00 A.M on Wednesday, September 17, 2008 with burial following at Masonic Cemetery in Des Moines. The family will greet friends from 5-8 P.M. Tuesday evening at the funeral home. Thelma lived most of her life in Des Moines and retired from Meredith Corporation in 1986. She was a member of Park Avenue Christian Church, Southgate Order of the Eastern Star, TTT, the Good Neighbor’s Club and the Meredith Retiree’s Club. She enjoyed cooking, reading and being a “social director” for her friends and family. After retiring she volunteered for the Des Moines Schools for many years and received an award from the governor for her work. She is survived by her children Mary Lou (Pete) Peterson of Des Moines, Dick Ogden of Des Moines, Betty Hood of Mesa, Arizona, John (Gail Ann) Ogden of Burke, Virginia and Jim (Norma) Ogden of Des Moines; her brother Jim Moran of Des Moines; 41 grandchildren, 51 great grandchildren and 10 great, great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Ward Ogden Sr., her sons Ward Ogden Jr. and Bob Ogden and grandson Randy Hood. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Park Avenue Christian Church or Hospice of Central Iowa Kavanagh House on 56th.
