Jacqueline Fitzgerald Reed, 73, passed away due to complications from cancer on Saturday, September 13, 2008 at Mercy Medical Center. The family will greet friends on Thursday, September 18, 2008 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway, West Des Moines, IA.
Jacque was born November 30, 1934 in Chariton, IA, the daughter of John Francis and Cora (Keeton) Mahoney. She moved to Des Moines following graduation from Chariton High School and later attended AIB earning her degree in Court Reporting. She was a Court Reporter for Polk County and the State of Iowa for over 30 years before retiring. Jacque was one of the classiest ladies anyone could ever meet. She lived a full life surrounded by many friends and family members who loved her dearly. She was very knowledgeable and active in politics and had an avid interest in current events. Jacque loved dining out, attending plays and family get-togethers.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Lanna Fitzgerald of Urbandale, IA and Kent (Andra) Fitzgerald of Mary Esther, FL; grandchildren, Mauree, Patrick and Andrew; siblings, Ilene (Eldon) Graves of St. Louis, MO, Vincent (Ruth) Mahoney of Rockwell City, IA, Viola (Richard) Hart of San Francisco, CA, Charlotte Werts of North Platte, NE, Leo (Karen) Mahoney of Chandler, AZ; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Maurice Fitzgerald and Ralph Reed, one sister and two brothers.
Private funeral services are planned with burial to follow at Glendale Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to John Stoddard Cancer Center in loving memory of Jacque.

To the Family of Jacque Reed...we are both saddened no end to learn of the passing of Jacque...she was a very special person and brought so much joy to so many...we have especially warm memories of coming to the house at Christmas to share a few laughs and exchange Christmas joy with Jacque, General Kent and Lanna...we will always have those memories...thank you for including us on your special day as you and your lovely family say "farewell" to Jacque..it means so VERY much to be included....you are all in our prayers...God be with you all...Willie and Son

To Admiral Kent and his family and Lanna...we are so sorry to hear of Jacque's passing...however take console in the fact that your Mother lived life to the fullest...that she was the glue in my father's day when it all seemed too much to bear...when I had my years of trouble, your mother NEVER judged me, but wrote me weekly while I was in jail...and ALWAYS told me "that I would be a great person one day, and this was just a part of life...to hold my head up!! She was the BEST...I can only hope to aspire to be a fraction of who she was, and to live my life as full as she did!! Thank you for allowing us to be a part of this special lady's day and your life as you bid her farewell!! Your daughter was great today.....Thank you and God be with you all... Lanna and Kent,
I enjoyed reading about your mother, who was one special person in my life and in the life of my mother. Alice would always say that Jackie was her very best friend and how they enjoyed the many dinners around town. If I called in the evenings and Alice's phone was busy, I knew she was talking to Jackie. As you know, my mom has been gone almost one year, and I know that Jackie and Alice are celebrating being together again. I wish I could be in Des Moines for the visitation, but my thoughts and prayers will be with you both.
