Jacqueline Fitzgerald Reed, 73, passed away due to complications from cancer on Saturday, September 13, 2008 at Mercy Medical Center. The family will greet friends on Thursday, September 18, 2008 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway, West Des Moines, IA.
Jacque was born November 30, 1934 in Chariton, IA, the daughter of John Francis and Cora (Keeton) Mahoney. She moved to Des Moines following graduation from Chariton High School and later attended AIB earning her degree in Court Reporting. She was a Court Reporter for Polk County and the State of Iowa for over 30 years before retiring. Jacque was one of the classiest ladies anyone could ever meet. She lived a full life surrounded by many friends and family members who loved her dearly. She was very knowledgeable and active in politics and had an avid interest in current events. Jacque loved dining out, attending plays and family get-togethers.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Lanna Fitzgerald of Urbandale, IA and Kent (Andra) Fitzgerald of Mary Esther, FL; grandchildren, Mauree, Patrick and Andrew; siblings, Ilene (Eldon) Graves of St. Louis, MO, Vincent (Ruth) Mahoney of Rockwell City, IA, Viola (Richard) Hart of San Francisco, CA, Charlotte Werts of North Platte, NE, Leo (Karen) Mahoney of Chandler, AZ; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Maurice Fitzgerald and Ralph Reed, one sister and two brothers.
Private funeral services are planned with burial to follow at Glendale Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to John Stoddard Cancer Center in loving memory of Jacque.
