Richard R. “Dick” Mack, 73, died Thursday, September 11, of cancer at Karen Acres Care Center in Urbandale.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Ambrose Cathedral at a later date.
A lifelong resident of Des Moines, Mr. Mack was a 1953 graduate of Dowling High School and was a member of the St. Ambrose Cathedral parish. He was retired from the Allied Blind Co. and also served in the U.S. Navy Reserve.
He loved pipe organ music, and helped maintain the organ at St. Ambrose Cathedral. He also enjoyed Des Moines history and remembered watching cavalry officers playing polo on the Ft. Des Moines parade ground, dining at The Chickadee (now Gino’s), and watching events at the Coliseum.
Survivors include his sisters, Anne Mack of Columbia, MO and Barbara Mack (James A. Giles) of Des Moines; niece Anne Piedade (George) of Bedford, NY; nephew, Mark Kordick (Susan) of Fairfield, CT and their two children, Sarah and Matthew Kordick; and his cousin, Jimmy Joe Rusco of Bedford, IA.
