John Swacker

John H. Swacker, 85, died Sunday, September 7, 2008 at the Altoona Nursing Home. Graveside services will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, September 10, 2008 at the Berwick Cemetery in Berwick. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon St.
John was born July 17, 1923 in rural Howard County to J Howard and Mary Jane Swacker. He was the Warehouse Manager for Lindsey Bros. Farm Equipment and also owned John’s Tavern for many years. John enjoyed hunting and playing pool and was a member of the Des Moines City Pool League.
John is survived by his daughters, Mary (Dean) Brown, Mescal Ira, Margie (Darrell) Brown, Marlene (Mike) Dotts and Marlys Jones; sons, John (Ronna) Swacker and James Swacker; 20 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his loyal wife of 57 years, Amy; brother-in-law, Robert Fluharty; and his parents.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Central Iowa or the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
