Jacob (Rex) Ver Woert, 75, died Tuesday, September 2, 2008 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. Rex was born December 23, 1932 to Hattie and Jacob Ver Woert in Pella, Iowa.
Rex married Dee (Calef) Ver Woert on August 15, 1951. He was a devoted husband and father. The most important thing in life to him was his family and friends.
Rex was a member of the Teamsters and Desert Haven Community Church. He enjoyed playing guitar, singing, traveling and wood working.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Dee Ver Woert; son, Wes (Cheryl), daughter, Brenda (Randy) Kelley; grandchildren, Nicole (Ver Woert) Kooiman and Nathan Ver Woert, Randy, Jesse and Hatte Kelley, and Brett Ver Woert; great grandchildren, Jacob Kelley and Jacob Kooiman and twin brother, Rox (June) Ver Woert.
He was preceded in death by his son, Steven; his parents; two brothers and three sisters.
Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 6, 2008 at Bethany Reformed Church, 720 NE 52nd Avenue, Des Moines, Iowa.
Memorial contributions may be made to Desert Haven Community Church, 3065 S. Ellsworth Road, Mesa, AZ 85212 in loving memory of Rex.

My heart is filled with sadness with the passing of "my uncle", but as I remember Uncle Rex, I remember lots of fun and laughter filled days with Rex, Dee, Steve, Wes and Brenda. Some of my fondest memories, Brenda and Wes will remember too! Like the night the tree in the back of the house was struck by lightening and the sound it made when it cracked in two (Rex was around to comfort and tell us everything was ok), the tornado that whizzed over the house in (Saylorville), our parents playing cards while the best country music played on the record player, (Hank Williams, Brenda Lee to name a few and of course Johnny Cash), Brenda announcing that the world was coming to an end which scared me for years to come and there are many more memories that I'll keep to myself but hold dear to my heart.
Always in my heart uncle Rex, never to be forgotten, you've been instrumental in molding me into the successful woman I am today.
Thanks for loving and thanks for forgiving.
I love you and only wish I could have told you in person.
