Robert D. Akre
October 13, 2018
Robert D. Akre, age 73, passed away on Saturday, October 13, 2018, after a long battle with cancer. Robert was born the son of Norman and Sylvia Akre on August 15, 1945. He was raised in the little town of Highlandville, Iowa, a close-knit Norwegian community, eating lutefisk and lefse.
Helping others brought him utmost joy. He had an infectious laugh, loved to tell stories and just simply be with people. As a long-time co-owner of The Art Store, nothing made him happier than working with his customers in the art community (many of whom became lifelong friends). Outside of work, he loved hosting the Akre annual 4th of July party, boating on Lake Panorama and cheering on the Iowa State Cyclones. An active member of Faith Lutheran Church and Interchange Breakfast Club, Robert was a gentle soul who was crazy proud of his beautiful family.
Those left behind to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 32 years, Judy; twin daughters, Lisa Wieland (Tim) and Sara Andrews (Nathan); granddaughter, Anna Wieland; and sister, Joyce Cassis (Joseph); and Carly, his goldendoodle.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, October 16, 2018, at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines. Funeral service will begin at 11 a.m., Wednesday, October 17, 2018, at Faith Lutheran Church, 10395 University Ave. in Clive.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the family.

My conolences... just wanted you to know how Bob was such an anchor of good sense, good humor, and wisdom when I worked with him on the Building Codes committee at Lake Panorama. I always appreciated what he brought and contributed to our meetings. May you find comfort in great memories.
