Richard Floden

Richard Leroy Floden, 69, passed away September 17, 2018 at the VA Medical Center in Des Moines.
Richard was born March 13, 1949 in Des Moines to Merle and Irene Floden. He graduated from East High School in 1967. Richard served in the United States Marines Corps during the Vietnam War. In July of 1968 he married Diana Slaughter. Richard retired from the Des Moines Water Works after 38 years of service. He was a member of American Legion Post #659 Bellizzi MacRae. On the weekends, his favorite past time was watching his daughter and later granddaughters play softball. He enjoyed coaching softball, fishing, playing golf, bird watching, especially blue jays and cardinals and woodworking.
Richard is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Diana; children, Kara Witt and David (Andrea) Floden; grandchildren, Kayla, Alyx, Evan and Hailey; his sister, Peg Floden; and a host of extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Patsy Floden.
The family will greet friends from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, September 23, 2018 at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, September 24th at the funeral home. Richard will be laid to rest with military honors at 12:30 p.m. Monday at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the VA Hospital in Des Moines or the Alzheimer’s Association in loving memory of Richard.
