Jerry Duane Hudson, 82, died Saturday, September 8, 2018 at his home after a short illness. He was born January 28, 1936 to Oral and Nellie (Cabelka) Hudson in Herndon, Iowa.
Jerry worked as a plumber in construction and was a 50 year member of the Plumbers & Steamfitters Union Local 33. He was an avid fisherman who loved to share his catch at his annual fish fry. Jerry’s greatest joy came from spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Jerry is survived by his children, Cindy (Larry) Pratt, Jay Hudson and Jeff (Julie) Hudson; grandchildren, Jennifer (Matt Harris) Ferson, Jon Pratt, Ashley (Justin) Carley, Joel (Mary Connors) Pratt, Natalie Pratt and Alec Hudson; great-grandchild, Hunter Carley; longtime girlfriend, Mary Toomey; and other loving relatives and many special friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; former spouse, Betty Hudson; and siblings, Mervin “Pat” Hudson, Velda Kelm, and Russell “Mike” Hudson.
The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, September 13, 2018 at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens Funeral Home, 121 NW 60th Avenue, Des Moines. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday, September 14, 2018 at the funeral home with burial to follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the Animal Rescue League in loving memory of Jerry.

Jerry was a true tradesman. He worked for us at The Waldinger Corporation for many years. He set standards of quality and productivity that very few could equal. And he was a great guy to work with. In short, he made the world a better place. I am sorry he has moved on.
