Janice Bittner
September 05, 2018
On September 5, 2018, beloved aunt and friend Janice Irene Bittner passed away peacefully in her home at the age of 68. Janice was born in Escanaba, Michigan to Herman Bittner and Pearl (Marenger) Bittner, and had two sisters Doreen Anne (Bittner) Stokes and Joanne Marie Bittner.
Though a proud “Yooper” from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, Janice’s adoration for family prompted her to join her older sister Doreen on a path to both Milwaukee and eventually to Des Moines. There, in addition to doting on her loving niece Emily Stokes and nephews Lucas Erickson and Nathan Stokes, Janice also worked as a longtime nanny for the Rosenfeld family. She later also worked as an office manager at a child psychiatry office and most recently as a posting specialist at the American Abstract & Title Co.
Though the three Bittner girls were separated for a while, the family bond was too strong and Janice’s younger sister Joanne eventually joined her and Doreen in Des Moines. Janice and Joanne lived together creating a joyful duet that kept all their family and friends entertained wherever they went. They also would prove to be an instrumental extended family unit for Doreen, her husband Allan Stokes and their three children. Tragically, Janice lost her comic duo partner, Joanne, at the age of 42, and her role model sister Doreen later at the age of 63. With her passing, Janice now reunites the Bittner girls in Heaven.
Janice was loving, giving and fiercely loyal, with a passion for hosting others and talking. These wonderful qualities created close family bonds and strong friendships throughout her life. Special thanks to all Janice’s friends who were so very helpful with her travel, care, and spirits in recent years.
In addition to the many people she touched throughout life, Janice is survived by Lucas, Nathan, Emily and her brother-in-law Allan. She will be sorely missed.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 9, 2018 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon St, in Des Moines. Visitation will immediately follow the memorial service until 6:00 p.m. at Hamilton’s Funeral Home.

I had the privilege of knowing and working with Janice at American Abstract years ago. Janice was an Angel here on earth and now in the supernal heavens. Our thoughts, hearts and prayers with family and the many friends who were blessed to know her.

Dear Family of Janice,
I am so very sorry to read of the loss of your dear Janice. Although I did not have the privilege of knowing her personally, I enjoyed reading about her wonderful life. Such a loss!.
However I have come to learn from the Bible that death is an enemy that robs us of our loved ones! (1 Corinthians 15:26). Jesus also promises a resurrection of our loved ones at John 5:28&29. Yes a time when we can once again reunite with those who have fallen asleep in death! What a joyful time that will be!
It is my hope that you can find comfort in the Bible's promise especially the one found in Revelation 21:3&4 where death, mourning, outcry and pain are promised to be done away with!
Once again, my deepest sympathies.

As I think of Janice, I think back to our Bunko Christmas party last year. She was happy to be with the entire group. She was feeling good and looked beautiful. I will miss her great smile and whit.
