Ruth Snider

Ruth Eileen Snider, daughter of T.J. Barnes and Floy Riggs Barnes, was born in Perry, Iowa on July 23, 1920. She passed away on September 5, 2018.

She was united in marriage to Harley Dean Snider on July 15, 1944 at the United Methodist Church in Rapid City, South Dakota. To this union were born two sons, Mark D. Snider and Gary L. Snider both of West Des Moines.

Ruth graduated from William Penn College and worked as a secretary in Des Moines until her husband returned from service in the Army Air Corps.

Ruth is survived by her son Gary; sister, Kathleen Baker; grandsons Ryan and Brett; great granddaughter, Kenzie Snider; great grandson, Casper Snider and a host of nieces, nephews and beloved friends. She is preceded in death by her husband, Dean and son, Mark.

Ruth participated in her community, whether it being a Den Mother or a volunteer. She wrote poetry in her later years. Ruth collected Nativity Scenes, Praying Hands and Madonna’s and was known as the Madonna Lady. She was a longtime member of the Norwalk United Methodist Church. Ruth was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan and on any given game day you could find her wearing her Black and Gold.

Service will be held at the Norwalk United Methodist Church at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 12, 2018 with Pastor Steve McElroy officiating. The family will greet friends on Tuesday, September 11, 2018 from 5:30 -7:30 p.m., at the church. Memorials can be directed to the Methodist Church in Norwalk.
