Service Details

Thomas Edward Jenderseck was born September 14, 1949, in St. Cloud, Minnesota to John and Catherine (O’Donnell) Jenderseck. He went home to be with his Lord and Savior Tuesday, September 4, 2018, at the age of 68.

Thomas was a devout member of Calvary Apostolic Church in Des Moines and he dedicated his life to working for the Lord. His hobbies included woodworking and gardening, but above all he loved spending time with his family. He married Debra (Armstrong) on April 11, 1980, in Des Moines, Iowa. He was an Army Veteran of the Vietnam War, serving from 1967 to 1970. Thomas earned the nickname “Lazarus” due to his many close calls throughout his life. He was the man that everyone loved and who loved everyone. He had a wonderful sense of humor and was always telling jokes, making people smile. Thomas saw the good in everything and encouraged others to do the same. He was a servant of the Lord, a dedicated husband, father, grandfather and brother, and a loving member of his church family. He will be missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife of 38 years Debi, children Melissa (David) Bentz, Todd (Ruby) Jenderseck, Tannya (Tim) Newberry and Henry Jannenga Jr., 19 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, siblings Robert Jenderseck, Judy (Thomas) Hoeschen, Richard Jenderseck, Janet Brockway and Janice (Rick) Gibson, nieces, nephews, other extended family and many beloved friends.

Thomas was preceded in death by his parents John and Catherine Jenderseck and his siblings James, Phillip, David and JoAnne.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday, September 7, 2018 at Calvary Apostolic Church, 2611 Easton Blvd, Des Moines. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 8, 2018, also at Calvary Apostolic Church. Thomas will be laid to rest at Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter at 9:30 a.m. Monday, September 10, 2018. (If you would like to take part in the procession to the cemetery, please meet at Hamilton's Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, September 10th.)

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the family.

“Tonight we lost our precious brother, husband, father and grandfather Tom Jenderseck. We are all in shock and heartbroken. He was a man with a servant’s heart and a dear friend to all who knew him. When we think of those who enter into Heaven, the Bible says, “Well done, thou good and faithful servant, enter into the joy of the Lord.” Brother Jenderseck was all of that. Good, faithful, a servant, and one who did well. Words cannot begin to express the sorrow we feel for all of his family at this time. Please keep them in your prayers and thoughts. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.” (Pastor Deckard and the Calvary Apostolic Church family)
