Thomas E. Carroll

Thomas Edward Carroll was born in Des Moines, Iowa on August 4, 1942, to William and Bernadine Carroll. He passed away on August 29, 2018, at his home in Altoona, Iowa.

Thomas, an alum of Dowling High School, enlisted into the Marine Corps and served his country with pride. Upon discharge from the Corps, Thomas owned and operated Eagle trucking before retiring from Anderson Erickson in 2014.

Thomas and Peggy (Munn) Carroll married on June 24, 1967, and raised three children: William, Phillip, and Jeanne.

Thomas was preceded in death by his parents, sister Margaret (Carroll) Toerber, and grandson, David Carroll. Thomas is survived by his wife Peggy; son William (Rose) Carroll, son Phillip (Kelly) Carroll, daughter Jeanne (Jared) Brus, grandchildren Ashley (Josh), Thomas, Devin, Charles, Logan, Madilyn, Luca and Kaden, his sisters Betty and Nora (Tom), brothers William and James; and brother-in-law, Garry Toerber.

Thomas was a devoted husband and father whom had a passion for his family, pheasant hunting with his brother-in-law Jim and extended family, tinkering, gardening, Pepsi, and common sense. Thomas will be loved and missed by all.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 2, 2018, at Hamilton’s Altoona Funeral Home, 105 4th Street SW in Altoona, with visitation beginning one hour prior to the service time. A private family graveside will be held at Iowa Veterans Cemetery on Wednesday.
