Susan Jane Waters

Susan Jane (Reiling) Waters, 68, of Ankeny, Iowa, passed away on August 25, 2018, peacefully in her home. Services will be held on Friday, August 31, 2018, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue in Des Moines. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., with the funeral service to begin at 12 p.m. Pastor Owen Cayton of Ankeny Christian Church will be officiating. Burial will follow services at Ankeny Memorial Gardens.

Susan was born in Coon Rapids, Iowa, on August 21, 1950. She graduated from Coon Rapids High School in 1969. She attended beauty school and took courses at Des Moines Area Community College focused on child development.

Susan married Jim Waters on May 14, 1988; they were married 30 years. As a child, she was very involved with Girl Scouts. She loved flying kites, playing cards & games, and spending time with her grandchildren. Susan enjoyed trips with her mother and her sisters to go shopping, exploring other states, and just simply talking and enjoying each other. She, along with her husband, attended multiple car shows all over the country in their 1940 Ford. Sue loved old cars, which was something that she gained in her childhood, because her father had a Model A. She loved to make people laugh and had a laugh that made everyone smile. She loved her family and enjoyed anytime she was able to spend with them.

Susan is survived by her husband, James H. Waters; her two children, Ryan (Rosie) S. Saathoff and Jesse (Danna) R. Saathoff; her step-daughter, Jean (James) A. Glentzer; her 7 grandchildren, Traci, Alyssa, Caden, Joe Jack, Calvin, Mary, and Canton; her 2 brothers, Tom Reiling and Jim Reiling; her 3 sisters, Nancy Bruening, Mary Cretsinger, and Jane Galloway; her nieces and nephews, and the rest of her family and friends.

Susan was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Bernadine Reiling, as well as her God-children, Lucas Lyons and Claire Galloway.
