Doris Murrow

Service Details

Doris Myrtle (Reynolds) Murrow went home to be with Jesus on August 27, 2018. Her life will be celebrated at The Well Covenant Church, 2625 Hubbell Avenue, Des Moines on Thursday, August 30, with a visitation 5:30 -7:00 p.m., followed by a service at 7:00 p.m.

Doris was born in Des Moines on February 21, 1932, to Glen and Rose Reynolds. Doris was to be the lone sister to her brothers Paul, Butch, David (her twin who lived just a month) and Bob. She married Wendell Garrett Murrow on February 28, 1953. They raised three children: Brent (married to Kimberly Bogaard), Cynthia (married to Kent Brady) and Susan (married to Chris Foster). They were also blessed with 12 grandchildren: Jessica, Nicholas, Tyler, Brittany, Isiah (at home with Jesus) and Ashley; Justin, Corbin and Victoria; Luke, Reed and Alivia. They gained grandchildren-in-love: Matt Johnson (Jessica), Ryan Tunink (Brittany), Vanessa Skeens Brady (Justin), Stefanie Lang Brady (Corbin) and Joshua Cory (Victoria). They even have two great grandchildren, Anaelle and Andrew (Corbin and Stefanie).

Doris grew up and lived most of her years on the east side of Des Moines. She loved, and wouldn’t think of disobeying, her parents, Glen and Rose, who raised her to love her Lord, serve Him and serve others. Before children, she worked in the office for the Army as Wendell served. She then returned home to support Wendell as he worked on the farm until they moved into Des Moines. She always wished she would have gone to school to be a nurse; so she became “Dr. Murrow” for her family. She was very involved with her church ministries, school committees and her children’s lives. She loved Jesus, her family, music, good old East High School, friends, her dogs, birds and chocolate. Her greatest fault may have been her deep desire to take care of her children and keep them from hurt. Her greatest blessing, however, was seeing them follow Jesus as she prayed. “Keep your eyes on Christ, not on man,” she would say. Doris has peacefully been ready to leave this earth for some time, knowing that her home is in heaven, and the rest of her family will join her there in time.

Doris is survived by her husband, Wendell, all of their children and their spouses, their grandchildren except Isiah and their spouses, and their great grandchildren.
