Arleen Ferren
August 24, 2018
Arleen Ferren passed away peacefully in her sleep on Friday, August 24, 2018, just 17 days shy of her 101st birthday.
Arleen was born September 10, 1917, in Clear Lake, Iowa to Frank and Merle Murphy. As a young child, her family moved to Des Moines where she graduated from East High School. Arleen married Bob Ferren on November 4, 1939, and they enjoyed 67 years together, where every day was an adventure. They made many memories traveling together. Arleen was as comfortable carrying a shotgun hunting pheasants as she was baking cookies for her family. She also enjoyed Wheel of Fortune, playing cards, and working crossword puzzles with a pen. She could spell any word and give you the definition.
Arleen worked in the ticket office at Drake University and later became the secretary to the Athletic Director, a job she thoroughly enjoyed. Arleen was sweet, quick-witted, smart, and an extremely clever lady.
She is survived by her daughters, Pam Manuel (J.C.) and Jan DeGan (Jerry), seven grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren, with number four on the way.
She was preceded in death by her parents, little sister Jean, her husband Bob and her son Bob Jr.
The family would like to thank Ruby A. for the many times she would take Arleen to McDonald’s where they would play cards, and also the ladies at Calvin who were so kind to Arleen.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 29, 2018, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Graveside Committal Service will be held at Highland Memory Gardens, 1 NE 60th Avenue, Des Moines at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, August 30.
Memorial contributions may be directed to AHeinz57 Pet Rescue & Transport.

I am very sorry for your loss . Losing a loved one in death is such a difficult thing to experience . Please be comforted by the promises in the Bible . Jesus tells us at John 5 : 28 , 29 that all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out . What a loving provision put in place by the God of all comfort so we can have the assured hope of seeing our dead loved ones live again one day . Meanwhile as I pray for that day to come I ask Jehovah God to bless your family and give each of you the strength to endure this most trying time . For more Bible promises please visit jw.org .
