Dan Richardson, 70, of Des Moines, IA, passed away at the Kavanagh Hospice in Des Moines, IA, on 8/22/2018, after his battle with cancer at home for several months. Dan was a beloved family member and friend to many. He was an amazing creative artist and will be missed dearly by all who knew him!

Dan Duane Richardson born in Des Moines, IA, 6/05/1948, was preceded in death by his parents Donald Ray Richardson 11/2/1924 – 11/3/1999 and mother Arlene Clare (South) Richardson 4/2/1925 - 8/15/2005 both of Des Moines IA. .

Dan attended Abraham Lincoln High School graduating in 1968. Dan -- an avid artist attended classes at the Des Moines Art Center while embarking on a life-long career as a creative artist. He was a master craftsman in every activity position he held. Dan also was the maintenance manager and taught Art Classes at the Beth El Jacob Synagogue. He also worked as the groundskeeper at Saint Mary Coptic Orthodox Church in Des Moines.

Dan is survived by his spouse Laurie (Brookes) Richardson.

Dan is survived by his six children: Eric Richardson(Kay), Colorado Springs, CO; Aaron (Lisa) Richardson, Des Moines, IA; Ben (Ashley) Richardson, Woodruff, IA; Dan (Carrie) Richardson, Prairie City, IA; Heather Meagan Richardson, Des Moines, IA and Bethannie (Adam) Richardson, West Des Moines, IA. Dan’s grandchildren are Amadeus, Kymberly, Riley, De Ella, Kendra; Benjamin, Hailee, Natasha, Kaelen, Brianna, Taliesin; Rhea, Leona, Dan; and Malachi.

Dan is survived by six nieces and nephews: Beverly Hagge, Donald, David, Matthew, Brandon and Thorin Richardson

Dan has four brothers, Donald Ray (Linda) Richardson, Rand Robert (Sharon) Richardson, Greg (Carole) Richardson, Mark Kevin Richardson and four sisters, Roxanne (Ed) ODwyer, Betina (Jim) Stavredes, Mardel (Doug) Johnson, and Caroline (Joe) Scherer.

Dan was preceded in death by his daughter Michele Lynn, age 3 and infant Grandson Zachariah.

Funeral services and Interment for Dan Richardson will be held at Sunset Memorial Gardens [7601 Fleur Drive, Des Moines, IA] at 1:45 pm on Saturday, August 25, 2018. Contributions are suggested towards a Memorial Head Stone to be placed at a later date.
