August 17, 2018
Adam Richard Nelsen, 38, passed away on August 16, 2018. Services will be held at Lutheran Church of Hope, 520 NW 36th St. in Ankeny, IA with visitation on Thursday, August 23 from 4 to 7 p.m. and the funeral service on Friday, August 24 at 12:00 p.m. Burial will be at Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Adel at 2:00 p.m.
Adam was a kind hearted man who never knew a stranger. He genuinely cared for and had a special place in his heart for everyone he met. He was born November 3, 1979 in Atlantic, IA to Glennda and Richard Nelsen. He graduated from Anita High School in 1998, and from Mercy College as a Paramedic. Adam was honorably discharged from the Army National Guard Company A168 Infantry after serving in Afghanistan from 2004 to 2005. He has been employed with the Ankeny Fire Department as a paramedic and firefighter for the past several years.
Adam had a zest for life that did not prepare his family or friends for his passing. He loved cooking for his family, friends, and fire family, traveling with Jennifer, hunting, fishing, and spending time on their boat at Saylorville.
He will be deeply missed by his wife of 10 years, Jennifer Bellman Nelsen; his parents, Glennda and Richard Nelsen; sisters, April (Jonathan Hansen) McAfee and Holly (Gary) Hermann; his parents-in-law, Terry (Walt) Beedle and Jim (Paula) Bellman; sister-in-law, Natalie (Mark Lawless) Beeler; brothers-in-law, Todd Cambron and Ryan (Juli) Cambron; nieces and nephews, Hannah and Estelle Hermann, Alex, Cole, Paige and Peter McAfee, Lauryn Beeler, Roger and Owen Cambron; and a host of friends and extended family members.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Ankeny Fire Department or to Team Rubicon. Condolences at www.HamiltonsFuneralHome.com.

We had the pleasure of meeting Jen and Adam in Punta Cana on our vacation. What a fun couple they are, is the first thing that came to mind. They invited us to dinner and drinks and the rest of the week they were are go to friends. Adam had such a sweet soul and was so much fun. I am so grateful to have met two wonderful people and have kept in touch since that vacation. Jen, I am sending you so much love and strength during this time and the days to come. Adam, you will be missed and just know you made the world so much brighter.

We had the pleasure of first meeting Adam when Jerod brought him to our house during a fishing trip. After they left for Iowa we looked at each other and said what a good man and what a pleasure it was for us to have met him. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your entire family
