Adam Richard Nelsen
August 17, 2018
Adam Richard Nelsen, 38, passed away on August 16, 2018. Services will be held at Lutheran Church of Hope, 520 NW 36th St. in Ankeny, IA with visitation on Thursday, August 23 from 4 to 7 p.m. and the funeral service on Friday, August 24 at 12:00 p.m. Burial will be at Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Adel at 2:00 p.m.
Adam was a kind hearted man who never knew a stranger. He genuinely cared for and had a special place in his heart for everyone he met. He was born November 3, 1979 in Atlantic, IA to Glennda and Richard Nelsen. He graduated from Anita High School in 1998, and from Mercy College as a Paramedic. Adam was honorably discharged from the Army National Guard Company A168 Infantry after serving in Afghanistan from 2004 to 2005. He has been employed with the Ankeny Fire Department as a paramedic and firefighter for the past several years.
Adam had a zest for life that did not prepare his family or friends for his passing. He loved cooking for his family, friends, and fire family, traveling with Jennifer, hunting, fishing, and spending time on their boat at Saylorville.
He will be deeply missed by his wife of 10 years, Jennifer Bellman Nelsen; his parents, Glennda and Richard Nelsen; sisters, April (Jonathan Hansen) McAfee and Holly (Gary) Hermann; his parents-in-law, Terry (Walt) Beedle and Jim (Paula) Bellman; sister-in-law, Natalie (Mark Lawless) Beeler; brothers-in-law, Todd Cambron and Ryan (Juli) Cambron; nieces and nephews, Hannah and Estelle Hermann, Alex, Cole, Paige and Peter McAfee, Lauryn Beeler, Roger and Owen Cambron; and a host of friends and extended family members.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Ankeny Fire Department or to Team Rubicon. Condolences at www.HamiltonsFuneralHome.com.

Adam was such a great friend, and genuinely great person, he was the first person to say hi, brighten a busy day with his conversation, or go the extra mile for patients & coworkers. On behalf of the Mercy Emergency Department, we offer our deepest condolences, he was truly loved, & will be missed dearly!

To Jen, family and friends, we are very sorry for you loss. We have known Adam for approx. 17 or 18 years when we hired him and his crew from Simpson College to paint our home. Great young man. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Jennifer,
My thoughts and prayers go out to you and your and Adam's families. I had the pleasure of meeting Adam for the first time as we were classmates in the paramedic program many years ago at Mercy College of Health Sciences. After graduating, we would routinely see each other crossing paths in the ambulance bays at local hospitals, where we would catch up on both fire station and personal lives. He cared for you very much and he always enjoyed helping and caring for others. He was in the right profession. Adam will be deeply missed. Heaven now has another paramedic-firefighter to help others in need.
