Danny Frank Sonderleiter
August 02, 2018
Danny Sonderleiter, 68 years old, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, August 2, 2018. Dan was born January 5, 1950, in Des Moines, Iowa. He was the son of Harry “Babe” Sonderleiter and Mary Ellen Bennett.
Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., followed by a memorial service at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, August 18, 2018, at Eastside Church of the Nazarene, 1451 E 25th Street, Des Moines, Iowa.
Dan was employed at Sondy’s Lounge on University, a family owned and operated business, from high school until January 1985, when he suffered a gunshot wound, leaving him partially paralyzed. Dan is remembered for his sincere generosity, his genuine love of people, and most importantly, his steadfast walk with the Lord. Dan loved spending time with people and seldom left home without being greeted by a friend. He was a dedicated father, supporting his children throughout his life, seldom missing a school event with his children.
He is survived by his son, Sean Sonderleiter (wife Candace) of Conroe, Texas; daughters, Laura Sonderleiter of New Virginia, Iowa and Mary Ellen Sonderleiter of Des Moines, Iowa; seven grandchildren: Alyssa, Brooklyn, Briana, Jaelynn, London, Sawyer, and Atlas; sister, Debbie Johnson (husband Bob) of Bondurant, Iowa; and many other extended family and friends.
Dan was preceded in death by his parents, Harry “Babe” and Mary Ellen Sonderleiter, and his daughter, Dana Kristine.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the family for a future designation.

One of my best memories with Dan is singing Victory in Jesus with tears running down our faces at Betheny Open Bible. I have used Dan in many testimonies of the love of Jesus and the power of forgiveness. Dans witness for Jesus Christ was a good example and now he has finished the race and we can rejoice that he is home with the King of Kings.

I knew Dan when he lived at Hilltop senior apartments. He enjoyed sitting in the lobby and always enjoyed it when someone stopped and talked to him. He was always kind and I knew his faith meant a lot to him. My deepest sympathy to his family

Dan, you were an amazing creation of God! Jesus was seen in you by so many.
I will always remember our talks about Jesus and Heaven.
I am sad you are gone but so happy because I KNOW you are now walking with Jesus on streets of gold (and no limp). Give Him a Hershey's chocolate bar.
Love you Dan. I'm a better man and Christian for knowing you.

Dan also had jobs at Anderson Erickson Dairy and the railroad as a young man. After he was hurt he worked at Katecho for several years. When he was forced to retire that was very sad for him. He loved all people and would give a stranger his last dollar. He was kind and forgiving even to those who were uncaring and unkind to him. "I will miss you more than you will ever know big brother, give my best to mom and dad".
