Barbara Helms

Barbara E. Helms, 83, of Hollister, Missouri, passed away July 31, 2018. She was born July 30, 1935, in Marshalltown, Iowa, the daughter of Ross and Frances (Miller) Campbell. Barbara was joined in marriage December 10, 1971, to Tom Helms and they lived in Winterset, Iowa until moving to Hollister.

Barbara worked for the Chicago Northwestern Railroad as a sales manager. She enjoyed reading, making quilts, and sewing. She was quick witted and had a wonderful sense of humor.

Barbara is survived by her daughter, Suzi (Allie) Zaabel; three step-daughters, Deb Abrahams, Becky (Terry) Helms-Fisher, and Teri Prather; two granddaughters, Brooke (Josh) Gillum and Lauren King; and three great-granddaughters; niece, Kristen Campbell. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of nearly 40 years, Tom Helms; and a brother, Chuck Campbell.

Graveside services for Barbara and Tom will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 29, 2018, at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery, 1 NE 60th Ave., Des Moines.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Animal Rescue League or the Shriner’s Hospital, in loving memory of Barbara.
