Dennis R. Smith

Dennis R. Smith passed away peacefully at home Wednesday, August 1, 2018.

Dennis was born October 22, 1943, to Carroll and Josephine Smith in Lake Park, Iowa. The family moved to Des Moines when he was a young boy. He graduated from Des Moines Tech and served in the U.S. Air Force. After returning home from the service, he went to work at Meredith Publishing and retired from EMCO Industries.

Dennis is survived by his loving wife, Jackie; children, Kevin Smith (Heidi) and Kristina Risvold (Mark); grandchildren, Elizabeth Dollins (Sam), Emily Vandever, Brennen Smith, Jacob Risvold, Katie Risvold, and Rebecca Risvold; as well as his great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. He is also survived by his lifelong friends, Mickey Ellis and John Brooks and their families. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Terry Smith and Steven Smith; his sister, Linda Reeves; and his father and mother in law, Slim and Susie Warren.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 5, 2018, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue in Des Moines. A graveside service will be held on Monday, August 6, 2018, at Sunny Hill Cemetery in Grimes, Iowa, at 10:30 a.m.
