Helen Schmidt

Helen Schmidt, 84, died Tuesday, August 5, 2008 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center. Services will be held at 1PM, Saturday, August 9, 2008 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines, Iowa, with burial to follow at Laurel Hill Cemetery.
Helen was an avid reader, enjoyed puzzles of all sorts, and loved gardening. She worked as an insurance underwriter for Allied Mutual Insurance for 20 plus years before her retirement. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, was a lifetime member of the YMCA and a member of the Upperclassmen water aerobics team.
Helen is survived by her son; Rusty (Karen) Moore, daughter; Becky Hilbrand, grandchildren; Tracie (Mike) Pavon, Reahnna (Tom) Singleton, Ranessa (Bill) Ashton, Raeleen Hilbrand (Ben), and Rusti (Andrew) Wood, great-grandchildren; Michael, Caleb, and Libbie Pavon; Cort, Abby, Bret, and Allison Singleton; great-great-grandchildren; Madailein and Michael Wood.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Jonny Schmidt and her grandson, Michael Moore.
Friends may greet the family between 6-8 PM Friday evening at the funeral home.
