Dorothy J. Howlett, 74, of Des Moines passed away at home on August 4, 2008. A memorial service will be held 11am Thursday, August 7th at the Park Ave. Christian Church. A visitation will be held on Wednesday evening at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home from 6-8 PM. Dorothy was a supervisor for Farmland Insurance for 28 ½ years retiring in 1997. She was a member of the Park Ave. Christian Church, loved to sew, quilt, do arts and crafts and spend time in Northern Minnesota. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is survived by her husband Wayne, her children Joanie Howlett of Des Moines, Susan (Mark) Bricker of Altoona and Steve Howlett of Des Moines, her Sister Luella Van Ekeren of Reasoner, Iowa, her brothers Don Van Ekeren of Hartford, Marvin Van Ekeren of Knoxville and Tom Van Ekeren of Oskaloosa as well as 4 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents Bill and Mary Van Ekeren, her sister Lorraine Miller and her Father and Mother-in-law Lee and Darline Howlett. Memorial contributions may be made to Park Ave. Christian Church, Iowa Hospice or to the family.

My heart is sad at the passing of Dorothy. I have very fond memories of working for her at Farmland. We had a lot of fun it was a great group of people I learned a lot from them. Know that she is remembered by many.

I am sorry about the loss, Aunt Dorothy will be missed. She was a very special lady and I have very fond memories of her. You are in my thought's and prayers.
