Service Details
Sherry Kay McCabe, 60, passed away Sunday, August 3, 2008 at Mercy Medical Center.
The funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, August 8, 2008 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon St. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Glendale Cemetery.
Survivors include her mother, Coral McCabe of Des Moines and a sister, JoAnn Carver of Republic, MO; nieces Carol Blackwell, Betsy White, Jenny Navarrette, all of Texas; great nieces and nephews, Christy White, Hillary & Ashley Navarrette, James White, Christopher Blackwell, Kyle Blackwell, all of Texas, and Dustin Grafton of Des Moines; great-great nephew Collin White of Texas and best friend Charlie Oscar.
Sherry was preceded in death by her father, James T. McCabe and nephew David Graspy.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the Animal Rescue League in Des Moines, Iowa.

I met Sherry in 1977 when we were students at the University of Iowa. We lived on the same floor of Quadrangle Hall. Sherry was what one would now call a nontraditional student because at age 30 she was quite a bit older than most of the other students. I liked Sherry for her irreverent sense of humor, intelligence, and deep spirituality. We became good friends and that friendship lasted 31 years. For a short while I even lived with Sherry before I pulled up stakes and moved to the wilds of Chicago. Yet I kept in touch with her throughout the remaining years and would try to visit her whenever I was visiting my family in the Des Moines area.
I mourn her passing yet at the same time I rejoice that she is no longer in pain and is at peace. She's probably telling dirty jokes up in Heaven right now! I will always treasure her memory and our friendship. Sherry's family is in my thoughts and prayers.
